About Alan Rae

I’ve set up and run 4 companies in IT, business support and e-commerce so I know about Sales, Finance and People. I teach entrepreneurial and digital marketing and business metrics at Southampton University Business School.

Research Projects

I’ve done numerous research projects into how small companies behave particularly how they communicate with their customers and staff.   Organisations I’ve worked with include SEEDA, HP, PCWorld, Virgin Atlantic, EU Leonardo project, Ukonline4Business, DTI, BNI, Yell and several Universities. I’m an Author, a Speaker and I develop training materials, run workshops and give face to face advice. My publications are available at How to do Business. or you can buy some of them here.

Current Interests

I’m a Chairman of our family horticultural business at Fletching Glasshouses in Sussex . We sell plants on the internet as Plants4Presents, and sell things for organic gardeners who want to be a bit more scientific about their Gardening.

Finally I’m a musician. I front a folk band, Newick Folk  This means singing and playing guitar, mandolin and mandola.

In a parallel life I’m a piano player focusing on Jazz and the Blues. I’m currently working with the Censational Cylvian to deliver a couple of American Songbook sets and with my old chum Rhiannon Hill as part of her “Kitsch n Sync” band. We do some jazzy satiric stuff plus a good chunk of our own material.

In the past I’ve played for Blues Business on their appearance at the Himalayan Blues Festival in Kathmandu and worked extensively with local singer Cylvian Flynn as part of the Ugly Bugs Blues Band, Revo6 and a Tina Turner Tribute Band, Just Tina. And once upon a time way back in the Jurassic I was in a band with June Tabor.

Hey there! I know this is kinda off topic however I’d figured I’d ask. Would you be interested in trading links or maybe guest writing a blog post or vice-versa? My site discusses a lot of the same subjects as yours and I believe we could greatly benefit from each other. If you happen to be interested feel free to shoot me an e-mail. I look forward to hearing from you! Excellent blog by the way!

Having read this I believed it was rather informative. I appreciate you taking the time and energy to put this information together. I once again find myself personally spending way too much time both reading and leaving comments. But so what, it was still worth it!
